Tamotori Hime (The Pearl Diver)

This artwork combines multiple influences -- from Japanese folklore, the cultural history of Kampong Gelam and current events and transgressions. While The Pearl Diver is diving for betterment, around her is litter, debris and turtles caught in nets. This is the artist’s understanding of our entanglement with the world and our existence in the center of it all.

Sei10 has Kampong Gelam to thank for his creative journey into the subculture of graffiti. The full time tattoo artist is a versatile one, adapting his unique style according to the medium of art. Often inspired by traditional Ukiyoe woodblock print designs, embellished with modern twists and elements, Sei10’s pieces infuses meaning and, even, politics while respecting the rules of the Japanese art style.
